Penji Kenya: Best ways to maintain good mental health

Aside from being physically healthy, you also need to have good mental health because it affects how you feel, think, and act. Mental health includes psychological, emotional, and social well-being.

Some factors that might cause mental health problems are poor life experiences (trauma or abuse) or biological factors (genes or brain chemistry). Having mental health problems are common so don’t be afraid to ask for help.

There is nothing wrong if you are not feeling like your usual self because it just might be your hormones starting up or your body just wanting to rest after a long day at work. To keep up with your mental health, here are some of the tips compiled by Penji Kenya:

Get plenty of sleep

Sleep is the most important when maintaining good physical and mental health. Sleep helps your body regulate the chemicals in your brain. These are chemicals responsible for managing your mood and emotions. If you are not getting enough sleep, you will start feeling depressed or anxious.

Eat well

Eating well is as important as getting enough sleep. You need to eat to fuel your mind and body. Make sure that your body is getting the nutrients it needs. If your body is not getting the nutrients it needs, you might experience mineral deficiencies such as B12 and iron deficiency that may result in a glowy mood.

Avoid smoking, drugs, alcohol

Although smoking and drinking aren’t always signs of mental health withdrawal symptoms. However, it can have a huge impact on you. For instance, if you had a few drinks, you might feel more anxious and depressed the next day.

Get plenty of sunlight

It is highly recommended to spend a day out because sunlight is a great source of vitamin D. It is an important vitamin that helps our brains release chemicals like endorphins and serotonin. Endorphins are happy hormones while serotonin stabilizes our mood.

Get active

Give yourself time to be active and exercise. It not only gives you a sense of achievement but also boosts the chemicals in your brain that put you in a good mood.

Do something you enjoy

Even if you are too busy, make time to do fun things you enjoy. If you find cycling relaxing, go ahead and spend an hour or two cycling around town. A huge fan of movies? You better set a day where you can just chill and binge-watch.

Socialize

Reach out to your friends and catch up. You can even have a chit-chat that might take several hours. You’ll be surprised by how light you’ll feel afterward. Make sure that they are friends who you completely trust.

One of the important ways to keep yourself mentally healthy is to recognize that you are not feeling well. There is also nothing wrong with seeking medical advice. What’s important is that you are getting the help that you need.
